Egypt’s Foreign Ministry Marks 101th Anniversary of Diplomatic Day

This year’s celebration honours the Egyptian diplomatic missions and sheds light on their efforts to safeguard Egyptian interests and rights in international forums, said Spokesman for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The celebration, held at the Diplomatic Club in Cairo, was also virtually attended by all the Egyptian embassies and consulates around the world through video conferencing.

The event is held in recognition of the sacrifices and efforts of members of the Egyptian diplomatic corps, Abu Zeid added.

A documentary film entitled ‘Egypt’s embassies… Serving the homeland throughout a century’ was screened to highlight the efforts of Egyptian diplomats to enhance ties with various countries.

During the celebration, Shoukry said that the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one of the world’s oldest diplomatic schools and that Egyptian diplomats understand the national responsibilities that fall on them.

Egyptian Diplomatic Day is celebrated on 15 March every year to commemorate the reestablishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1922.

The ministry was abolished following the declaration of the British Protectorate over Egypt in 1914.
