Arts and Crafts ‘Pop Up’ Event Planned for Mt. Lebanon Taproom

Art, crafts and beer have found a home at the East End Brewing Company’s Mt. Lebanon taproom.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 9, a “Crafts and Drafts” pop-up sale will happen once a month at the brewery. Scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month through the fall, it will have a small group of local artists and entrepreneurs selling their wares.

The “Crafts and Drafts” pop-up sale at the Mt. Lebanon location follows similar pop-up sales at the East End Brewing Company’s Larimer location. The Mt. Lebanon taproom opened earlier this year and, along with the pop-up sale, the brewery will be hosting “Name That Tune” competitions and yoga sessions.

The pop-up sales at the Larimer location started in 2015 and were “kind of just a lark,” according to Pittsburgh artist Matt Buchholz, who has helped organize the events.

“The response to it was overwhelming,” Buchholz explained. “With the opening of the Mt. Lebanon taproom, it was another opportunity for a whole new audience to come out and see some vendors.”

Buchholz, the artist behind the “Alternate Histories” series of art that inserts monsters and UFOs, among other things, into historical images, said there is likely some overlap between customers who are interested in craft beer and those who are interested in shopping local or purchasing work crafted by regional artists.

The sales will be happening on the patio of the taproom, weather permitting. Next Saturday, screen-printed and handmade art, handmade jewelry, illustrations, prints and houseplants will be available. Evan Lybrand, a Pittsburgh musician, will be playing live starting at 2 p.m.
