DUSHANBE, November 27, 2023 /NIAT “Khovar”/ . Today in Dushanbe the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation began with the participation of representatives of the relevant ministries and departments of the two parties, reports a correspondent of NIAT “Khovar”.
The co-chair of the Tajik side is the Deputy Prime Minister of the country Sulaimon Ziyozoda, the Turkmen side is the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Tangykuli Atahalliyev.
During the opening of the meeting, it was emphasized that during the years of independence, a reliable basis for cooperation in the fields of politics, trade, economics, cultural and humanities was created between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan; on the basis of these achievements, cooperation between the states was brought to the level of strategic partnership.
During the work of the commission, the parties exchanged views on the implementation of the decisions of the eleventh meeting, which took place on November 9-10, 2022 in Ashgabat.
Along with this, during the work of the commission, the parties will discuss ways to expand economic, trade, technical, scientific and cultural cooperation and issues such as progress in the implementation of the road map to increase trade turnover between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan during 2022-2023, cooperation in the field energy and water resources, including the import of petroleum products to the Republic of Tajikistan from Turkmenistan, improvement of the environmental and socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin, cooperation in the field of transport, industry, education, sports and youth, food security.
It should be noted that over the past year, the volume of mutual foreign trade turnover with Turkmenistan amounted to $52.9 million and, compared to 2021, increased by $30.7 million or 2.4 times. The share of trade turnover with Turkmenistan in the total volume of foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Tajikistan is 0.7 percent and ranks 16th in the structure of foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Tajikistan. Exports of goods to Turkmenistan from Tajikistan during this period amounted to $0.8 million, and imports from Turkmenistan amounted to $52.1 million. In January-October of this year, the volume of mutual foreign trade turnover with Turkmenistan amounted to $36.9 million.
The 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation will last tomorrow, November 28.
